1. Statement of Intent
At Total Home Refurb, we are fully committed to ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of our employees, subcontractors, clients, and members of the public.
We comply with all relevant UK legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and all applicable regulations.
We aim to:
prevent accidents and work-related ill health
provide safe systems of work
maintain safe equipment and working environments
ensure all operatives are competent and properly trained
2. Responsibilities
Company Director / Manager
overall responsibility for health & safety compliance
ensuring risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) are in place
providing appropriate training, PPE, and supervision
Employees & Subcontractors
follow all site safety rules
use PPE correctly
report hazards, incidents, or unsafe conditions immediately
3. Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMS)
We carry out site-specific risk assessments before starting any project.
All work is planned and executed in accordance with:
risk assessments
method statements
client/site-specific safety requirements
RAMS are available upon request.
4. Safe Systems of Work
We ensure:
proper planning before starting works
safe access and egress to all working areas
safe use of tools, machinery, and materials
control of dust, noise, and fumes
safe manual handling procedures
Special attention is given to:
spray painting (ventilation, masking, PPE)
electrical works
structural alterations
working at height
5. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
All operatives are provided with and required to use appropriate PPE, including:
safety boots
gloves
eye protection
respiratory protection (especially for spray painting)
hearing protection where required
6. Working at Height
All work at height is carried out in accordance with the Work at Height Regulations 2005
We ensure:
proper use of ladders, scaffolding, and access equipment
regular inspection of equipment
fall prevention measures in place
7. Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
We comply with the COSHH Regulations 2002
all hazardous materials are assessed before use
safety data sheets (SDS) are reviewed
appropriate handling, storage, and disposal procedures are followed
8. Fire Safety
We implement fire prevention measures on all sites:
safe storage of flammable materials
no uncontrolled ignition sources
access to fire extinguishers where required
clear emergency exits
9. Accident Reporting
All incidents, accidents, and near misses are:
recorded
investigated
used to improve safety procedures
Where required, reporting is carried out in line with RIDDOR 2013
10. Training & Competence
We ensure all workers:
are competent for the tasks they perform
receive appropriate training and instruction
are supervised where necessary
11. Public & Client Safety
We take all reasonable steps to:
protect clients and the public from site risks
secure work areas
maintain clean and safe environments
minimise disruption
12. Review
This policy is reviewed regularly and updated as required to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
